Hello Little Maya,

Last Friday (20th october 2011) something happened. just after you had your morning bath, you suddenly choked, couldnt breathe for a few seconds and you vomited a little. We had no idea what you swallowed, but the x-ray scan later showed that you had a 10 sen coin in your throat. Pity my little Maya. i guess it was uncomfortable having something stuck in your throat, you couldnt sleep that morning (you usually sleep at 10am till 12 noon daily, and you take your nap at 3pm to 5pm) and you woke up crying. Tears strolled down your right cheek mase kak bibah sent to up to my room :(

At 3pm you were admitted to the Putra Medical Centre ward and by 5.40 pm you were already escorted into the Operation Theatre. The doctor had to give you sedative and fish the coin out through your mouth.but you are such an angel la little Maya, even before and right after the operation, you were so cheerful running about here and there in the hospital. I suspect you mistaken the hospital as a hotel maybe. You were discharged from the hospital at 11 pm the same day. So far im not surewhat  the total amount of bill is, but I heard it is more than rm2000. Its okay, I hope Daddy's company will cover that, or else we still have your insurance that we can claim from.

Oh maya, I think this little incident has taught mama and daddy to be more careful and more alert with you. Like mak tok always say, we need to pay you 200% uindidved attention. this incident has made me realize how close I was to losing you, and I realize how precious and dear you are to us. please be careful in the future ye sweet ssumayya, mama and daddy pun dah insaf, we regret we let this happened. But mama always make doa everytime after mama pray, among the doas I make are:

for Allah to protect Sumayya from any mishaps, from the evil deed of others, panjangkan umur Sumayya, bagi Sumayya grow up happy and healthy, bless Sumayya with lots and lots of rezqi, mama even ask Allah to give you jodoh yang baik, give you serenity and success in life and hereafter, daddy also pray that you live a long blessed life, and more importantly we pray that you dont ever get thalasemia major.i love you maya. maya sgt sweet, comel, manja and very very smart. Dear Sumayya,

I owe you and this blog an apology. I think I have failed to keep my promise. Daddy thinks its quite uncool to not to finish (or maintain) what I started (he means blog writing). Anyway to make up for it here is a list of what I call important updates of what has been going on for the past few months:

  • We celebrated your 1st birthday 2 weeks earlier on Labour Day, because your cousins Sarah and Mu'adz were here. We had cake and nasi ayam, your fave dish at that time.
  • These days you're not too keen on your solid food yet. Either you chew the food and end up spitting them out, or you refuse the food completely.
  • At the age of 16 months, you can almost run and you already have 5 teeth.
  • Mama tried to make you switch to bottle feeding (formula milk) but so far after the third attempt you still seem to think that mommy's milk is the best.
  • Your first words are "nak", or "nanak" which either means "I want" or "I don't want" (could be both), and sometimes you can say "MAMA" only upon request. Its so cute!
  • At this age you show deep interest in music (your fave song so far is by LMAO the Party Rock Anthem), dancing (you can shuffle!), cooking (or pretend to) and meeting people.
  • I had your Skim Simpanan Pendidikan Nasional account opened the other day. Your total amount of duit raya (which exceeded RM1000 will go to this college fund of yours! :)
That's all I could think of right now. Maybe I'll write more when I remember them. I love you Sumayya. I think you grow cuter and cuter by day.

Dear Sumayya,

So it has been almost three months since I last updated? Oh time flew by so fast Sumayya. You're almost 10 months now, and you have started to crawl! Finally! You're very generous with your smile, and every time you are amused you grin, showing your toothless gum and you crinkle your nose. And I think you like babies. It's like you don't even realize that you are one yourself. You have started to learn to stand up on your own by hanging on to the sofa and chairs, and you have started to love your food. I was worried sick when you suffered heavy flu and cough last month because you refused to eat at all! But now you just love your rice crackers and rusks and home made porridge. Mama puts chicken, sometimes beef, sometimes fish with carrots, potatoes, cheese, onions and raisins and you love it. You still hate fruits though. I have tried papaya, watermelon and apple but you made face whenever I feed you it.

You also had your very first jeans, dresses and cardigan at this age. You are a big baby now Mama thinks its inappropriate for you to go out wearing romper anymore. You now dress up like a little adult! And oh you also did your first 'creative writing' only a few days ago. The first scribble you did was on Mama's face, the second one on your tiny little button nose, and then you started to get extra creative and you drew on Mama' breast and tummy during breastfeeding time. You never failed to make us laugh Sumayya. And a couple of days ago I came home and found you all comot with pen markings all over your romper, and foam playmat too. Arent you cute? Yes you are sayang.

As I'm typing this, you're fast asleep behind me, with your mouth partially open, looking like a really adorable human doll. Starting tomorrow I'll be having my school break for 9 days, I am looking forward to be spending a lot of quality time with you (and updating this blog as well). Thats one of the perks of being a teacher I guess? I get more holidays!

Talk to you later, Sumayya. I love you.

Sumaiyah – South Africa

"Sumaiya does mean high above and pure and is the name of a flower which I read somewhere is the name of a beautiful flower that grows on the highest part of a mountain so I reckon that flower sums up all the meanings of pure, high above and beautiful in one!" -Sumaiya

Sumaya is small Samia, it is an arabic name. Samia is the feminin of Sami, or Sam. And the root of the word in Arabic is somow. Somow mean to rise to high level. Sumaya thus good be translated into “her highness.
Sumaya is the name of the first Muslim woman who was killed by the pagan, becoming the first muslim Martyr woman, killed because of her religious belief.
The name Sumaya however exists almost in every culture, it is written as Soumaya or Sumeya etc………………
Be that as it may, the name Sumaya is an old arabic name with a lot of meanings attached to it, see meaning of Sam, the masculin equivalent. -Sumaya
THERE WAS THIS URDU LITERATUR PROFESSOR(HE WAS AN ACQUAINTAINCE) I MET HIM IN HIS LAST DAYS…TOLD HIM MY NAME AND THAT I DONT KNOW ITS MEANING HE TOLD ME IT MEANS MOON LIGHT….. SO MAY BE WE CAN RELATE THE THREE MEANINGS WHICH WE HAVE FOR OUR NAMES : THAT IS HIGH ABOVE, PURE AND MOONLIGHT…. AND CONCUDE WITH IT… -Sumaiya Ahluwalia
So far I met with couple of arabic people and they told me it mean “high above” in terms of spirituality. -Sumeyye
I have another meaning 4 our ths unique name. It means “Heavenly”. I did search it from Google’s link. -Sumaiya Fatima Siddiqui
Apart from the ‘First Female Martyr of Islam’ There are so many meanings that have come up from all Sumaiyas and relatives on my post that am making a summary of it for easy reference.
a. lofty or exalted
b. pure or from the sky
c. flower bud or beautiful flower -Sumaiya
Dear Sumayya,

I love us so much, sometimes I feel like I dont want things to ever change. While you lie close to my chest and fall into deep sleep I love to stroke your super soft tiny fingers and wish that you never grow up and stay a baby forever so that I can cuddle you that way always. But thats just wrong right. Especially now when you're growing so fast and so healthy, oh I'm going to miss this moment Sumayya.

Ps: You look so adorable when you pucker up your upper lip and give that 'distant' look. Mama geram!
